Over 3.37m tons of goods transited via Iran in Q1

TEHRAN- Over 3.37 million tons of goods were transited via Iran during the first quarter of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21-June 21), according to an official at the Iranian Roads Maintenance Organization.

Mohammad-Javad Atrchian, the director of transit department at Iran’s Roads Maintenance Organization, said the figure shows 1.2 percent growth compared to the first quarter of the previous year, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported on Sunday.

Oil products accounted for 1.738 million tons and non-oil products constituted 1.636 million tons of transited goods in the three-month period, the official mentioned.

The transited consignments mostly consisted of fuel, chemical materials cotton, home appliances and foodstuff.
 
Iraq, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates were the main countries which transited goods via Iran.

Transit of goods via Iran rose by 6.5 percent in the past Iranian calendar year, which ended on March 20, compared to the year before.

Over 12.3 million tons of goods were transited via the country in the previous calendar year.
 
Shahriyar Afandizadeh, the Iranian deputy transport and urban development minister, has said that Iran has the capacity to transit 40 million tons of goods annually.
